Advantages of Rubber Mulch

Rubber mulch, which is obtained by processing old rubber tires, is environment friendly and a durable alternative to organic mulches. Millions of used tires discarded by the automobile industry have been piling up these years, but the invention of rubber mulch has put an end to this potentially disastrous situation.

The material is obtained after removing the impurities from rubber treads. It is superior in many ways to other mulches. Natural mulches like leaves, tree barks, wood shavings etc tend to decay and form an impenetrable layer of decayed material under the surface soil thereby preventing water and nourishments reaching the roots of plants. But this used rubber product would not easily decompose, and prevents growth of weeds and pests where it is spread. Further, it do not allow loss of moisture and nutrients from underneath the surface soil.

Rubber mulches have undergone quality upgrades during the last few years. Now color mulches, which are best suited for home gardens and landscaping, are also available in plenty. Mulches of different colors add to the charm of parks and gardens and make them more inviting.

Playground mulch is another form of rubber mulch. The material has brought down the number of playground related injuries to a great bit as it acts as a cushion. It is gaining acceptance in the racing arena too because of the sure footing it provides to horses on the move. Its superb shock absorbent and supportive qualities, durability and resistance to natural elements like wind, rain and heat have endeared it to many stud farm owners and jockeys. The military also has started using rubber mulch extensively in its training fields due to the cushioning effect it provides.

All About the Snapper Mower

Snapper Mowers are the highest quality, most durable products on the market. Who says so? Lawncare.com for one. They say the Snapper is one of the best deals because of its longevity and easy to use style.

Ranging from $1,400 - $5,000 depending on the deck size, horsepower and accessories, each Snapper comes with a Briggs & Stratton engine, a solid steel pivoting frame and a 2 year warranty. These riding mowers are easy to operate. Even if you cannot use a push mower, you can ride a Snapper. Especially unique is the rear engine on each model. It comes with a disc drive transmission. That means you don't have a clutch or gears to fool with. It is as easy as driving an automatic car. So, even if you are not a pro at driving a riding mower, you will find these red and black mowers easy to navigate around trees, flower beds, lawn decorations and sidewalks.

Snapper Riding Mowers are easy to maintain as well. The newer rear engine models have what is called a stand-on-end feature. That means the engine is designed to stand upright for easier cleaning. It also makes storing the mower in the off season less of a hassle. It can drive in and fit in the shed or even the cramped corner of your garage.

Here are some other features that makes these mowers stand out from all the rest. They have what is called a 3-in-1 convertibility feature. That means you can decide how you want to dispose of the clippings. You can bag them, mulch them back into the lawn, or dispense them through the side chute. More and more people are choosing to mulch the clippings back into their lawns. It saves landfill space and enriches the roots. The Snapper does this beautifully, so you can walk on your lawn right after mowing and not worry about grass clippings getting stuck to your bare feet or shoes. How? The mulching feature actually re-cuts each blade of grass as it moves across six different blades. That ensures a fine mulch that settles back deep into the grass for a healthier lawn.

Another great feature of the Snapper Riding Mower is the pivot turning frame. Its tight radius makes mowing even smaller or more intricately laid out landscapes. The steering responds quickly to zip around corners and curves while still giving you an even cut. The controls are in easy reach, and the steering is in the front, just as in a car. That means a very little learning curve, even for the novice.

The Briggs & Stratton engines are renowned for their quality and last-ability. Snappers come is varying horse power strengths from 11.5 to 17.5 SAE units, or 13.5 on up to 24 hp. These mowers have adjustable blade cut heights from 1.5 on up to 3.75 inches, so they are suitable for any grass type and the area of the country you live in.

Snapper makes zero turn mowers that range from the 150Z to the 355Z on up to the heavy duty 500Z. The 355Z has what is called the Hydro-Gear® hydrostatic transmission. It is designed to add extra torque when you need it. This is especially helpful when you are mowing larger properties. The 500Z sells for around $5000. It has the same features, plus a wrap around rear bumper to protect the engine and a heavy duty welded frame.

The RE200, which sells for around $2450, has a 12 inch turning radius and a 30 inch deck, which makes it a good machine great for medium to smaller sized yards. It has two patented features. The first is the Ground Hugger™ with its torsion suspension. This allows the front and rear wheels to pivot independently for tighter maneuvering. The other feature is the Extensive Auto Leveler™ that gives you an level cut even if your lawn is not perfectly flat. No matter how much you have to turn, it keeps the mowing deck parallel to the ground. The control tower in front puts everything in easy reach and doesn't obstruct your view.

Features like these along with its unique patented rear engine design are what influences people to buy Snapper Mowers. Plus, they have the reputation of lasting a long, long time.

Advertising Balloons: The Five W's

The effectiveness of advertising balloons is topped only by the relatively new phenomenon of advertising wrapping. Wrapping, which consists of printing advertising on thin material and literally wrapping it around an object to turn it into a billboard, is extremely costly. Advertising balloons, on the other hand, are extremely affordable. Here, then, is the Who, What, When, Where, and Why of advertising inflatables.

Who: Advertising inflatables are relatively inexpensive, and can definitely accommodate even the most modest advertising budget. Advertising balloons allow small- and medium-sized businesses and organizations to compete with their larger counterparts.

What: Advertising inflatables include advertising balloons, advertising blimps, custom balloons and helium balloons. Some are filled with helium, while others are filled using cold-air blowers. Advertising blimps and advertising balloons are typically tethered to the ground or a rooftop, and float up to 120 feet above the ground. Twenty-foot tall dancing balloons, often in the shape of a person or character, are tethered to the ground and are filled using an air blower. Most companies keep a variety of standard advertising inflatables in stock, but they can also make balloons or blimps in virtually any shape.

When: Use advertising inflatables anytime you need to draw the attention of passersby. Advertising blimps are great when you want to attract attention from a distance. If you have a retail store near a highway, for example, a small blimp flying in the sky will grab the attention of drivers. If you wish to attract street traffic, a dancing balloon tethered to the ground at street level will cause heads to turn. Keep in mind, though, that dancing balloons tend to fall over in winds over 20 miles per hour, and are most effective on calm days. If you have a booth at a trade show, you may wish to hang advertising balloons from the ceiling.

Where: Advertising balloons and blimps can be used anywhere you want to stand out from the crowd, whether it's near a storefront, at a street festival, at a fundraising event, or at a trade show.

Why: Advertising inflatables are an extremely cost effective method of drawing attention to your store, product, or service. For as little as $300, you can have an effective advertisement that you can use as often as you'd like.

Hydroponic Systems Designs - Do You Need Help Deciding on Which One to Build?

When deciding on your hydroponic systems designs you need to take into account who will be mostly using it and what you will be growing. If you are building one for your kids you probably want to build one that is very basic. When building one for an elderly parent you will want one that can be placed on a shelf to keep them from having to bend a lot.

A prototype hydroponic systems design I would like to introduce to you is a recirculating aquaculture-hydroponic system. This system provides a symbiotic relationship between fish living in the nutrient solution and your plants roots that are growing in the solution. You may have never thought about growing fish along with your hydroponic garden but they go very well together.

One of the simplest hydroponic systems designs that you can make is a deep water culture system. With this one your plants roots will extend down into the solution for its nutrients. The nutrient solution will need to be aerated by using an air pump. A simple aquarium pump will work. The system basically consists of a container within a container. The plant will be inside the middle one and it will be inside the one with the nutrient solution.

By cutting holes in the cup that the plant is in will allow the nutrient solution to get to the roots. Keep light from the solution to keep down the growth of algae. Also if you use coconut fiber as your growing medium it releases a natural hormone to keep the plant roots healthy. Whichever hydroponic systems designs you decide to try have fun with it. Hydroponics is a relaxing and therapeutic activity. This will give you better health as well as a healthier and more varied diet.

Construction of a Rock Garden

Once you choose the site of your rock garden, select the rocks you want to use and have the soil prepared, you are ready to start construction. The first question you might as is when is the best time of year to make a rock garden? The rocks and soil may be handled at any time except when the ground is frozen, but the summer months offer the longest period of freedom from planting rush, and then the soil is dry and easily handled.

Then there will be autumn rains to make the soil firm and winter frost to settle the rocks and planting can best be done the following spring. The first thing you need to do is to dig off the existing topsoil (the first foot of earth) and remove the roots of all weeds and grasses. Much of this soil may be used in backfilling if all roots are sifted out. On this base the large bulky rocks should be laid, each packed around with soil, well rammed, and topped by several chinker stones, large water features, outdoor fountains, or garden statuary before the next are put into place.

As the program for procedure has already been arranged, the work of laying up the rocks can proceed. Now is the time to worry over the details of the outline of the structure. You may have decided the general shape of the area in advance and may even have a plan at hand to give the principal elevations and major masses. However, you must decide the details of the shape of each crag and ravine as the rock garden is being constructed.

The aim is to give the greatest variety in configuration in a small compass, with an appearance of geologic truth and yet make the best possible home for each plant. For the best growth of many rock plants it is well to separate the groups by little walls of stones, outdoor water features, garden statuary or large fountains, making a pocket for each. Not only are they thus separated, but the plant roots will follow down the cool rock faces and withstand the rigors of summer and winter more safely.

These pockets vary in size and shape, slope and relation to the sun, thus giving infinite variety in detail to the face of the garden. It would be best that the planting for each area be fairly definite in mind as the pockets are constructed. Though a detailed planting plan for a rock garden cannot be made on paper, the general arrangement of the plants should be decided as the construction proceeds. Surface drainage is another worry at the time of construction.

Most of the rock garden has sufficient slope to carry off excess rain. Too often the little valleys become canyons worn by cloudbursts, when soil and plants are washed away. This must be foreseen and prevented by the laying of the stones. Some of the valleys should have deeper hollows to hold rain for a time, or employ the use of large waterfalls, a patio fountain, or wall fountains, for such rock plants as Primroses and Gentians like their roots well watered.

Actual watering of a rock garden is rarely needed, for with correct construction and proper planting the vegetation will withstand any normal dry season. Sub-irrigation is possible, and at time of construction perforated water pipe or porous drain tiles may be laid among the rocks, about a foot below the finished surface, the upper end to be connected to the water supply for an hour or more in extreme dry weather.

Clear Glass Vases - Show Off Your Flowers in Glass

Clear glass vases are a dazzling yet simple way to show off flowers, from buds to bouquets. Your living room can look quiet yet sophisticated, with glass flower vases in your living space. They are elegant and statuesque, and they set your rooms apart.

A tall clear glass vase is a simple style statement, but vases also come in various patterns, designs, sizes and shapes. Some are blown by machine, some hand thrown and some mouth-blown. If you have the funds to get the finest vases, you can select clear crystal vases to show off style and class.

You can find clear square glass vases, or vases in shapes round, rectangular, square and cylindrical. You can choose the best ones to enhance your decorative style. They are versatile and you can use them in so many ways.

Slender vases look elegant when you decorate them from within with daisies or red roses. These make your home warm looking and inviting. A simple bunch of colorful, fresh flowers can put a smile on the faces of your guests. Trim the roots, too, since the stems are visible through the vase.

You can dress up a clear glass cylinder vase with satin ribbon and sand, marbles or pebbles in the base. Or, for good luck, slip in lucky bamboos, for a traditional Chinese appeal.

In addition to the shapes of vases you may have seen, you can also find them in short or tall lengths, and with narrow or broad vases. Hand blown clear glass vases can have completely individual shapes, depending on the tastes of the glass blower. Fish bowls and bubble ball vases are unique types of vases that can show off your unusual style.

In the summer, you can use oranges, limes or other fruits to make a lovely addition to the vases. And for holidays, use symbols of the day to spruce up your home. Mosses and herbs can dress up short and stout glass vases. At Christmas time, you can add pine comes or ferns for the season.

Glass cylindrical vases can make effective candle holders. You can place them along dark hallways to illuminate them, and their slender shape makes them easy to carry and move. If you fill a clear glass flower vase with floating candles, it magnifies their lovely effect. It makes a great showpiece in your home, or a stately office decoration.

You can customize a clear glass vase by adding stained glass or metallic paint, or by wrapping it with wrapping paper. After you paint them, you can use them for arranging dry flowers.

If you have an excess of glass vases, you can reuse them in various creative ways. You can make them into centerpieces that will grace your dining room table. You can add stone pebbles or other items to give added appeal. You can even add a faux finish to them, so they will look like stone. However you show them off, Clear Glass Vases will add a special touch to any room in your home.

Rock the World With Pompadour Hairstyles

Pompadour Hairstyles were mainly used by men before, but today, you will also see women and many models who use it as a hair style. It was taken from Madame de Pompadour. It is considered as the coolest and hottest hairstyle for men. You will look like a rock star and super star if you wear a pompadour hair style. Be in style and be the hottest individual at work or in school.

It is considered as the cutest hairstyle as it does not cover your face so your full face is shown. Let us now check on the easiest procedures there is.

Firstly, you must get a small section of your hair from the top to the tip of your hair. The small section will be used and comb into a mid or high pompadour and the rest will be tied with a hair clip. Comb back a small section of your hair with a fine comb. Place the completed tip towards the front of your face and complete the rest of the hair. Create bangs and use a bristle brush. Place a clip and pin to hold your hair. The rest could be left hanged or ponytailed. Complete the procedure with a medium hold spray.

It is recommended that women place a heavy makeup if they will try on a Pompadour Hairstyle to make them look more attractive.

There are two hair style cuts for Pompadour. There is the 'long on top' cut and the 'really short' cut at the back and sides. If you want a conservative look, this style is not for you. It is considered as the coolest and hottest rock hairstyle.

Pompadour hairstyle is also known as rock hairstyle. This is for men and is flipped at the back with oil. You will see a parted or not parted hair and a flipped hair style. Try messing up your hair and look the pompadour style.

There are also two ways to create a pompadour. The first is called the hair dryer method. You can complete a pompadour in just a few strokes and less than 5 minutes. You take a bath first to wet your hair. Use a blower to dry your hair and apply a gel to your hair. The dryer will push the gel to the roots of your hair. As it gets firm, use a final hard gel to firmly hold your hair in place. You may opt to place a small hair dressing in front of your hair so you can move your hair with your head.

Another way is to grease your hair strongly with lots of oil and pomade. First wash it, put some oil and comb again to an ordinary fall. Move slightly the front hair so it gets a lift and hold. If you do this so frequently, you will realize that it is easy to style a Pompadour and presto, you get a rockabilly look.

All The Essential Garden Home Tools

There is no end to the possible tools that the gardening enthusiasts will need for this practical pastime. But some garden home tools are more essential than others if you wish to attain worthwhile results.

Having a good quality shovel will certainly save you many hours of back breaking effort. A quality shovel is one that won't break the first time that you punch the hard dirt and pull back on the handle. It also needs to withstand the effects of clay or rocks, maintaining a good edge.

A square ended shovel is ideal for removing large amounts of earth at once, but they do tend to be tougher to push into the ground. It's often useful to use them on softer earth or for transporting piles of mud that have already been formed. They also make great tools for dispensing compost and manure based fertilizer over the area you wish to focus on.

The triangular spade can make a fine all purpose tool, and is in particular handy for creating those larger holes that are required to transplant larger shrubs or plant trees. One version is the telescope handle shovel which is fitted with a very narrow blade - similar to a trowel by with a longer handle. They are perfect for making small holes while standing upright and are also great for many weeding tasks.

Garden shears are a basic requirement. They are available in several sizes and shapes, but make certain to get some that do actually fit your hand. Most of the shears are fitted with moon shaped blades, meaning that one side is convex and the other concave. They're ideal for cutting off stems, branches and dead leaves. The versions that are equipped with a locking device to keep them closed are great for extra safety and simple storage.

A standard hand rake is a very handy tool that may be used for more purposes than you may imagine. Even if you have an electric leaf blower packed away in your garden shed, you'll still find times when it's neater and easier to use a rake. It's also a key tool for de-thatching the lawn in the fall, or preparing it in the spring.

You'll discover that having a wheelbarrow can be very useful and will get used more often than you may suspect. If you have several plants that need transporting, it's much easier to place them at the bottom of the barrow and be on your way.

They are also ideal for distributing fertilizers. You can simply place the sacks in the wheelbarrow or pour the contents, then drop it all over a specific area and spread around with a rake. This can be much easier than carrying around a 30lb sack in both arms and pouring the content out.

Apart from the basics there are many helpful garden home tools. A pole saw or folding saw is perfect for pruning trees. A hoe is likely to be used frequently. A mattock is handy for relaxing earth during weeding and transplanting. Gloves are often needed when working with those prickly plants. A trimmer, watering can, weeding tools... the list is never ending.

Outdoor Tools and Equipment - You Actually Need Very Little

If you go to a typical home and garden store, you may get the impression you need dozens of tools to keep your home in good shape. After all, there are literally thousands of outdoor tools and other pieces of equipment for sale. Well, you simply don't.

I love to do small jobs that make a big difference. Granted, some big repairs can't be avoided, but I am going to give you what is probably considered the three most basic outdoor improvements you can make with the biggest return, and they require very few outdoor tools or no equipment.

Spruce Up Your Yard

1. Edging. With a decent manual or power edger, you can make your yard look noticeably nicer in just a few minutes. Edging your sidewalks and driveway is one of those things that is so simple, yet makes such a great visual improvement. Clean lines make a whole yard look cleaner and crisper, and the only thing you're doing is clipping blades of grass in a straight line!

Tools needed? A lawn edger. And you can spend as little as $20 or up to $400 for a new one. For twenty bucks and about 10 minutes, your yard can look much more manicured than ever before.

Better yet, buy a weed whacker that can both edge your walks and driveway and also trim high grass along fences and brick work. It's that easy.

2. Weeding and Trimming. Another yard-sprucing-up technique is simple weeding and trimming. When you hear this, you may question the word "simple" as you conjure up negative pictures of big, time consuming jobs. But, actually, if a little weeding and trimming happens each week, you very seldom, if ever need to experience long, hard work.

The key is to do a little bit a lot of times. Yep. That's the key. When a yard or landscaping bed is overgrown with weeds, you're in for some work, but if you pull just a few weeds out each week, there are far less to pull, and they come out easily because they haven't had time to grow deep, tough roots.

Trimming can also be easy if you don't let hedges, bushes and trees get out of control. It's amazing how the identical home can look amazingly better with well trimmed bushes and shrubs. It not only makes your landscaping look better, it makes the whole house look better. Well maintained landscaping somehow transfers to the actual house. It's that simple.

Tools needed? Not much. There are a few variations on the standard hand-tool weeder, and you can spend as little as $5 and up to $30. Newer "twister" designs and even stand-up designs with foot plungers make weeding easier, and will cost you just a little more.

For trimming, you have a whole host of options, but you don't have to spend a lot. Basic pruners and clippers are inexpensive, and again, the key is to keep on top of the growth.

De-Clutter Your Yard

I've always been amazed how the beauty of a property can be improved by simply keeping it clean and clutter free. Garden hoses, yard knick-knacks, and other stuff lying around makes a yard look cheap and poorly maintained. Even simply sweeping or blowing away leaves, clippings and other debris makes a driveway, garage floor or sidewalk surprisingly more beautiful in just moments.

Tools Needed? Well, you might invest in a decent quality gas blower. I did almost 20 years ago (won't mention the brand, but my father-in-law convinced me to buy good quality and I'm really glad I did.)

Even if I barely move anything in my garage, just taking two minutes to blow out dust and leaves off the garage floor makes the whole thing look better. And taking three minutes to blow the grass clippings and other stuff off my driveway and sidewalks does the same thing. A good blower can cost you $300 or more, but like I mentioned, I've had mine for twenty years and I love it.

Other than a blower, de-cluttering your yard just requires you and maybe a broom. And, as you can see from above, edging, trimming, weeding and basic de-cluttering takes surprisingly little investment by way of outdoor tools and equipment, so save your money, consistently put in little bits of labor, and you will keep your yard both beautiful and inviting to everyone passing by.

A Guide to Soil Aerators and Soil Aeration

Soil aerators improve the health of the grass by adding air and space to the dirt. Compaction naturally occurs over time, especially in areas that are heavily and/or frequently used. Clay soils are harder to begin with and tend to compress faster. In such compacted areas, there is no room for grass roots to grow deep as they struggle to push into the hard ground. Instead they tend to grow horizontally in the softer topsoil. This means that all the roots are removing the water and nutrients from just the first few inches, which leads to shallow roots and a lawn more susceptible to drying out or to succumbing to weeds. A regularly aerated lawn has softer, fluffier soil where the root system can go deep to get the nutrients and water it needs to produce healthy and hardy grass.

Liquid lawn aerators, also called soil conditioners or surfactants, are sprayed onto the grass. As they penetrate into the soil, they expand out, breaking up soil particles and adding more air. Frequently they include humic acid which is great for getting rid of toxins that may be in the root system. A top dressing added after will increase the benefits of the aeration process and improve the soil. If the lawn is not in good shape, it is a good idea to apply the soil aerator every month of the growing season, then ever other month the next year, only two times in the third and beyond that, annually will suffice if the lawn remains healthy.

It can be challenging to know whether or not a specific product is working as it should. Visible indications may not appear for some time. A good way to check to see if the soil is indeed being aerated is to use a soil probe. This T-shaped tool is shoved into the ground until significant resistance is met. After taking it out, the depth is measured. Check the day of each new application. The measurement should be deeper each time.

It is important to do other regular lawn care. Many lawns do best when they are also periodically aerated using core aeration, either manually or mechanically, in conjunction with the application of other aeration products. Also make sure that the grass gets the right amount of water. Mow regularly, keep the grass higher and avoid cutting more than a third off the grass at a time, all of which will improve overall lawn health and appearance.

How to Find a Rolling Lawn Aerator

Many people blame their lawn and garden problems on insect damage. However, much of the time, the problems are actually due to maintenance issues. There are some things you need to do to your lawn that you might not be aware of. One of them is aeration. If you want to keep your lawn looking its best, you need to prevent the soil from compacting and preventing the plants from growing.

In clay soils, or high traffic areas, soil compaction is a real danger. It creates a hard soil that it's hard for plant roots to grow through. Grass and other lawn and garden plants without a good root base have a hard time nourishing themselves, and grow poorly. They can be more susceptible to insect damage and disease, too. There are all kinds of problems that failing to aerate your lawn or garden may cause.

The solution to this problem is a rolling lawn aerator. This tool allows you to easily loosen the soil, so that roots can grow more effectively and provide their parent plants with the nutrition they need. Finding the right rolling lawn aerator isn't all that hard, but most people still don't know how to do it. Here are some of your options.

First, decide how often you'll need to aerate your lawn, and what your budget is. If you'll be moving away from the house you're currently in, don't have a lot of money to spend, or have soil that won't need frequent aeration, you can rent one instead of buying. Many equipment rental stores will offer aerators. Renting is a great way to find out if you like a particular brand and model, too - you can try before you buy.

If you know you need an aerator at home, however, you'll want to look into buying. Your budget and the size of your lawn will affect which one you decide to buy. Decide how often you'll need the equipment and what you want it to do. Think about how you'll operate it - there are types that can be pushed and pulled, depending on which motion is more comfortable for you. There are plenty of different products out there (including aerator sandals for walking!) so it's important to look at the key features of each one.

Take the time to read a few reviews, or ask someone you know who already owns an aerator about the model you're thinking of buying. This can help you find out if there are any common problems with the aerator you want, and what maintenance issues you can expect. Spend a little time learning about the equipment before you buy it, and your chances of getting a good deal go way up. A good lawn aerator might be just what your lawn needs - make sure you buy the best.

Roots Supercharger is One of the Oldest Vacuum Pumps

There a few different type of superchargers, but a roots supercharges was one of the first and most recognizable. In the eighteen sixties a vacuum pump was created by Philander and Francis Marion Roots. The pump was originally used in blast furnaces but later used by others as a supercharger for a car. The roots supercharges is one of the oldest vacuum pumps for cars.

Superchargers basically supply more air to the engine. More air combined with more fuel into the charge makes a more powerful explosion, resulting in better performance.

A roots supercharges is really nothing more than an air blower. The supercharger has messing lobes that spin and trap air in-between. As the lobes are carried between the fill and discharged sides, large quantities of air move into the intake manifold and create positive pressure. The roots supercharger is not considered very efficient. It adds more weight to a vehicle and does move air in smooth flow, but more in bursts. Many muscle car owners like the supercharger because it sticks out of the hood and represents classic older style muscle cars.

When a blower or supercharger is malfunctioning you can take it to a mechanic or a vacuum systems specialist. Many mechanics are great at installing and replacing a supercharger but they may not be the experts in fixing them. A vacuum system specialist will be able to repair any vacuum pump, including superchargers.

A supercharger is great way to add power and performance to your car. But if you are going for a classic muscle car look than a roots supercharger is the way to go.

Top Seven Common Riding Lawn Mower Problems and Solutions

Riding lawn mowers are valuable and incredibly useful tools that can save time and energy spent on yard work. However, riding lawn mowers can have problems and need maintenance. Listed below are seven (7) common riding lawn mower problems along with trouble shooting tips. If a problem cannot be solved from the advice laid out in this article, contact a repair shop.

NOTE: These materials are prepared for use by trained technicians who are experienced in the service and repair of equipment of the kind described in this publication, and are not intended for use by untrained or inexperienced individuals. Such individuals should seek the assistance of a service technician or dealer.

Problem 1: Engine Will Not Crank

Sometimes the simplest solution may fix this riding lawn mower problem. Confirm that all the safety features of the riding lawn mower are functioning correctly. Make sure the mowing deck is not engaged, the parking brake is on and the operator is seated on the riding lawn mower. If one of the safety switches has not been properly activated the riding lawn mower will not start.

The next potential issue to check is the riding lawn mower's battery. In rare cases, the battery cable leads can work loose from the battery terminals. The black negative battery cable must be attached securely to the negative battery terminal. The negative terminal will be marked with a "NEG", "N", or "-" notation. The red positive battery cable should be connected securely to the positive battery terminal and will be marked with a "POS", "P", or "+" notation.

IMPORTANT WARNING: electrolyte is diluted sulfuric acid. Use extreme care to avoid spilling. It can destroy clothing and burn your skin. Test the battery to determine its condition. This can be accomplished by checking the specific gravity of each cell with a hydrometer. A fully charged cell will measure 1.250 specific gravity. Verify that the fluid level in the battery is adequate. If the fluid level is low, fill with distilled water so that it rests just below the split rings; then charge the battery at 5 amps maximum charge for 30 minutes until all cells measure 1.250 specific gravity. If all cells are unable to reach 1.250 specific gravity, replace the battery.

If the battery is in working order, locate the fuse holder(s) and inspect to see if a fuse is blown. Refer to the operator's manual to find the fuse holder(s) location. Check for loose, bare, or pinched wires and replace any blown fuse with the proper amperage automotive fuse. Finally, ensure the engine ground wire is in fact grounded. There should be a black ground wire running from the engine to a non-painted metal surface on the frame or a mounting bolt.

NOTE: Not all riding lawn mowers are equipped with an engine ground wire to frame.

Problem 2: Engine Cranks, But Does Not Start

If the riding lawn mower will not start, check the fuel level. The engine will not fire if there is not enough fuel in the carburetor. It is also possible the fuel line is clogged or blocked. Clean the line and replace the fuel filter to solve this problem.

Make sure the throttle and/or choke is in the proper position. This position can vary from model to model of riding lawn mower. Consult the operator's manual for the proper positioning of the choke and throttle for the riding lawn mower in question.

Faulty spark plugs or disconnected wires can also cause the engine to crank but not start. Run a diagnosis on the spark plug wire connection by using a spark plug tester to see if any plugs are faulty. Clean the gap, making sure it is set properly or replace any faulty spark plugs.

Problem 3: Engine Is Smoking

The most common cause of an engine smoking is having too much oil. Examine the oil level and remove any excess oil if overfilled. The problem should go away once the excess oil burns off. If the smoking persists, it could be possible the engine is losing its crankcase vacuum. Loss of crankcase vacuum can be caused by a broken or improperly seated dipstick, dipstick tube, or valve cover as well as a defective engine breather assembly or other internal engine damage. Replace any defective parts to restore crankcase vacuum pressure.

Problem 4: Unusual and Excessive Vibration

Blades, pulleys and spindles should not be bent or damaged. Mowing over a large object such as rocks, roots, sewer lids etc. can cause damage to the parts. Any damaged parts should be replaced.

A twisted or damaged belt may also be the culprit. All belts should be in good shape and properly routed. Replace the belt if it's torn or shows signs of wear.

Vibrations can also be caused by loose or missing mounting bolts, running the engine at a low RPM, or an improperly adjusted cutting deck.

Problem 5: Bagging, Discharging, or Mulching Poorly

There are a few actions that can be taken to minimize problems with the bagging, discharging and mulching. First, check the engine speed. The engine must be operating at full throttle for the bagging, discharging or mulching functions to work properly. Proper set-up of the deck is critical to the quality of cut. The deck should be level side to side and always lower in the front than the back by 3/8 of an inch. If that does not solve the problem, sharpen or replace the mower blades.

NOTE: Make sure the proper blade is being used for the correct application.

Operating conditions such as wet or exceptionally tall grass can cause poor functionality. To remedy these situations, always allow the lawn to dry prior to cutting, and if the grass is too tall, mow with the deck at a higher setting before mowing at the normal level. Try mowing at a slower rate to get a better and cleaner cut. Lastly, clean out any dirt and debris that has built up on the underside of the deck.

Problem 6: Mower Will Not Cut In Reverse

This is not a problem at all -- it is a safety feature. The cutting deck must be disengaged before the tractor can be shifted into reverse. However if the riding lawn mower was produced in 2005 or later it may be equipped with reverse mowing technology. This allows the operator to mow in reverse. Refer to the operator's manual for instructions.

Problem 7: Tractor Will Not Move Freely In Neutral

Check the operating manual to ensure the transmission relief valve is in the proper position. If it does not move in neutral, make sure the brake is fully releasing.

Garden Cleaning For Aesthetic and Sanitation Purposes

For the serious plant person you should know by now that cleaning up your garden in the fall is mostly for aesthetic reasons, occasionally for garden sanitation. But plants don't have to have it done. So stop worrying that you haven't had a chance yet to cut off peony leaves, take the tops off the mums after they have been frozen, or cut back the delphiniums. After all, if they were growing wild the tops would stay on and the plants would still live and grow.

If there is disease it is a good thing to destroy the tops you cut off. Otherwise, put them in the compost pile and save all that organic matter for your garden in the future. The way some people rake their beds and clean them up, they do more harm than good by pulling out roots and tearing the plants apart.

Except for unsightly tall stems I leave them alone, so they gather all the oak leaves as they fall and hold them there for the winter. It's a lazy man's way but it works and besides, it gives one friend who is a very neat and orderly mathematician a wonderful chance to think that I'm the world's sloppiest gardener.

As you throw all of your leaves and garden trash on the compost pile or used a leaf blower to clean your garden, after each foot of material scatter in some insecticide or spray some neem oil. This serves two purposes: It should keep down many if not all the sowbugs (pillbugs) that love compost piles as their home and will keep out the earthworms which destroy so much of the organic matter. If you don't have enough leaves, gather in sawdust or shavings from any saw mill and mix them with your garden trash. It's lots cheaper than buying peat moss.

If you are the kind of gardener that leaves your wheelbarrow or garden cart out in the rain so that what you have in it gets soaking wet, why not drill a couple of quarter-inch holes in the bottom to let the rain drain out?

Rich Becomes Richer, Poor Becomes Poorer?

I had talked with my few Cambodian friends on many topics this morning, but there is one which really hit me up. One of my friend said, in Cambodia, the rich became richer and the poor became poorer because the rich people consider the poor people's back as a rice field as well as make money from corruption!

1. Rich because of corruption

It was really awful to me- I mean I can understand big percentages of Asian countries are full of corruption but there is nothing to do between corruption and get rich. Corruption doesn't make you rich but Money Management, Financial Eduction, Solid Plan, Self-Encouragement, and Passion, etc - those are the things which will be going to make you even richer and wealthier! There are a lot of the rich become broke and the poor become millionaires! No matter how much or big position you are if you don't use your asset wisely before or after you will feel regretful.

2. Rich people consider the poor people's back as rice field!

Of course I would feel so bad if people look to others as cheaper than they are, but you are living in the real world. There will be some good and some bad.

In fact, the rich people don't really think that way, but it is you who focus and give the final judgment to yourself. No body is more perfect than the others because we're all the same people- the difference is Financial Eduction when it comes to money.

Let's break it down and compare a little bit so you can understand more.

Why do you become poorer and poorer?

Laziness

People are lazy. When it comes to solving something hard or difficult, and they run away. Laziness always leads the unsuccessful people.

Lack of Financial Education

Don't go to school and no intention to grab any education but like doing something simple and live same old lives. Doesn't know how to get a better living and build their wealth.

No plan, Never think big

Simple people who just want to live in a big world- wiling to do something easy and live day by day for the rest of their lives. Never take something seriously or any drawing direction.

Scariness- Loosing Self-encouragement and motivation

Willing to become a rich person but so scare and always think positive that they can't achieve their goals because it is too hard for them to solve or get over. Can't go farther because of the darkness in front.

Follow family's roots- Willing to take no gambling!

My father is a police so myself must be a police- my mom is a teacher so myself must be a teacher too!

Why richer becomes richer?

Hard working

Success people deserves a better life because of their hard working. Never boring of solving problem in front of their faces and still keep walking straight although they are really really tired.

Full of financial eduction and always plan before doing something

Financial eduction gives people wealthy- those wealthy people hit right at the point because they know how to control their money and build wealth by using their financial eduction as well as a strong drawing direction in the hand. they suck any eduction as much as they can. Financial eduction earns the successful person dignity and recognition

Always dreaming to be the best as they can be

These people always think big and always dream about becoming a better person in the world.

Full of passion, never feel scared, and huge self-encouragement

Never feel scared or afraid to grab something huge or far. Believing in their judgement that they can achieve it by letting passion and motivation leading them to the star. No matter how far they are from their goal but they are going to reach it soon because of their strong passion.

Forget the family's roots, willing to take any risk, and ready to start gambling

Wealthy and successful people don't really care about what kind of job their parents are doing, but they are afraid of hard and poor lives. To be born as a person, they must have better lives. Their lives are all about gambling- not with the CASINO but with their FATE.

So now, you know the answer and hope you all hate the poor life like me.

Operating A Leaf Vacuum

For many of us, the vacuum is the housecleaning tool that we couldn't live without. As new and better vacuums hit the market, consumers flock to the shelves in search of just the vacuum and just the attachment that will help them better handle all those interior messes; corners, cobwebs, hardwood, and carpet. The benefit of the comprehensive vacuum is its ability to handle it all. But when it comes to maintaining the exterior of our homes, there is a vacuum that is just as helpful - the leaf vacuum.

The leaf vacuum is a device that has revolutionized fall clean up in homes across the country. In essence, a leaf vacuum is a device with a nozzle attachment that uses suction to pick up leaves. For anyone who has spent hours raking a lawn, the leaf vacuum is nothing short of inspired.

Designed to remove exterior debris such as leaves or grass, the leaf vacuum has its roots in the leaf blower. The model for the leaf blower was first invented in early 1970s Japan by engineers for use in spraying insecticides. The United States quickly adopted the blower unit and - recognizing its potential as a comprehensive garden tool - soon began to market it in the care for lawns and gardens nationwide. The leaf blower was resoundingly embraced by garden enthusiasts and weekend warriors who were tired of the backbreaking work required to maintain the exteriors of their homes. Outside work entered a new world of convenience as the blower was strapped to the user's back and the user manipulated the nozzle to blow leaves and debris from the area.

The leaf vacuum followed suit; but rather than blowing leaves and debris away, it captured the debris inside the unit that could then be disposed of or returned to the earth in the form of compost. This was enormously helpful in that the vacuum prevented material from simply being blown onto the neighbor's lawn - it was the most comprehensive definition of clean up.

Today, the leaf vacuum is very often integrated into a blower unit that will allow you to do either - blow the debris away or capture it through the vacuum feature. There are a wide variety of leaf vacuums that differ according to size and horsepower - your budget and the size of the area in which you need to maintain will determine the type of leaf vacuum that will best work to your advantage.

A leaf vacuum can be purchased at any large retail outlets or home improvement stores. They vary according to price - so be sure to do some comparison shopping before committing to a purchase.

Maintaining the exteriors of our home is something that comes with the responsibility of homeownership. But with the chaotic lives that we lead - busy careers and family schedules - finding the time to devote to meticulous landscaping detail can be more than difficult - it can be impossible. But with the use of the new, high-end convenience products, such as the leaf vacuum, designed to streamline exterior maintenance we can effectively and conveniently attend to clean-up without compromising our precious time.
